How Halal Tallow Began

For years, I battled chronic eczema. I spent thousands of pounds on treatments and followed the NHS pathway: steroid creams like hydrocortisone, Eumovate and Dermovate, light therapy, and even immunosuppressant medication like methotrexate. Eventually, I was told to “just live with it.”

That wasn’t good enough for me. I started researching what was really going on with my body and my skin, and I learned how closely skin is linked to gut health and to what we put on it every day. I made big changes to my diet, and then I looked at my moisturisers: products with over 40 ingredients I couldn’t even pronounce. I knew there had to be something simpler.

I wanted something natural and pure, the kind of skincare our ancestors used long before supermarket shelves were full of chemicals. That’s when I discovered tallow.

There was just one problem: as a meat-based product it had to be halal-certified, and in 2023 no one was making it. So I made it myself.

I sourced the highest-quality grass-fed, grass-finished fat and rendered it five times with filtered water until it was completely pure. Then I whipped it with cold-pressed organic jojoba oil. Nothing else. 90% halal tallow, 10% jojoba. Rich, gentle and free from fillers, it’s one of the best moisturisers you can put on your skin, without the sticky, greasy feel of the emollients so many of us know too well.

That first batch became Halal Tallow: the original halal tallow, made for anyone who wants a simple, honest moisturiser they can trust. My whole family uses it daily. The face balm stick is a particular favourite: compact, easy to carry and perfect for topping up through the day, whether after wudu or whenever your skin needs a refresh.
